After navigating the transitional period of the past year, Township Rollers is set for a bright future, Club Chairman Dr Phempheretlhe Bafana Pheto has.
Giving his Keynote address to the Township Rollers annual general meeting (AGM) held at the Royal Aria in Tlokweng on Saturday, Dr Pheto said after the decade long (2013-23) tenure of former club financier Jagdish Shah, the club needed to be stabilised over
the past 2023-24 season.
That was achieved with the help of Mr Jimmy Kereng of Prestige Parlour's Group, he said.
Dr Pheto admitted that the past year was full of challenges, but the club was grateful to Mr Kereng who helped Rollers successfully maintain its normal operations.
After the club cordially parted ways with Mr Kereng, Rollers had now found a worthy investor in Mr Tendani Sebata of the Sebata Group, who agreed to a five year partnership as 80 percent investor in the club through the Popa Popa Investment management company.
Mr Sebata, a Zimbabwe-born, South African based businessman involved in luxury coach business, as well as truck and logistics, cargo handling operations, is a credible entrepreneur and shares the vision with Rollers management to take the club to greater heights,
Dr Pheto said.
This includes a long term vision for Rollers to aquire assets, he said.
Dr Pheto told delegates that Mr Sebata will look after the three club properties, the Township Rollers elite senior men's team, the Ladies Team and Development sides (under 17, under 15 and under 13).
Rollers planned to have a season launch mid September Dr Pheto said, where the club would unveil Mr Sebata to the supporters, as well as new signings, members of technical staff, a new technical sponsor, the upcoming season's playing kits as well as the modes
of transport for the senior men's team, Ladies team and Development sides.
Dr Pheto said the club would soon reveal details of the launch when internal preparations are concluded.
He further urged supporters to take up or renew Rollers membership, saying an exciting package of the life insurance and other membership benefits would be revealed soon.
The Chairman also paid tribute to Stanbic Bank of Botswana, whose seven year relationship with the club as Rollers' title sponsor ended recently.
Dr Pheto said Rollers was now in pursuit of new, similarly beneficial commercial partnerships from companies seeking to leverage on the Rollers brand, a sporting institution with great following.
He said seeking to aquire commercial partnerships does not mean the investor is incapable, citing some of the world's major clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool, which have wealthy shareholders but still have major companies sponsoring their
clubs.
Dr Pheto also updated members on some internal issues and urged supporters to give the club and the investor full support.
